about my website

The Webmistress

While pursuing my pilot certificates and ratings in the 90's, I looked for and began to keep a listing of scholarships that could help fund my flight training. I was lucky enough to be awarded scholarships for my Commercial, Multi-Engine and a Boeing 737 type rating from various sources. My list kept growing and growing, so I created a free website back in 1996 on Geocities and posted it on the internet to try and help others find money to fly too. Over the past 20+ years (and a few servers later!) this website is the scholarship indexing project it has grown into. Being female, I placed a special focus on cataloging grants for women. As such, much of my list contains awards for females only but there are some that are open to men as well.

The scholarships listed on this site are mostly one time awards of $250-$3,000 to help defray the cost of flight training for a pilot certificate or rating. Almost all of the awards on this page are not restricted to collegiate aviation students only, hence are a resource for those pilot who cannot tap into all the money available to such students. This type of non-collegiate list was the goal of my scholarships indexing project which I began after college as I flight trained towards my goal of becoming an airline pilot.

Therefore, the numerous sources of aid and scholarships for students enrolled in university and college aviation programs are not listed here.

However, you can find information about these types of awards from the University Aviation Association Collegiate Aviation Scholarship Listing - A consolidation of the publicly available information concerning collegiate aviation scholarships. The publication describes how to obtain applications for more than 700 aviation scholarship awards with a total value in excess of one million dollars. UAA members may read it online for free in the Members Only area. It is available for purchase to members and nonmembers in their Online Bookstore. Additionally, the American Association of Airport Executives gives several scholarships.

I try to update this listing when I get a news about a new award or whenever a submission is made, however, it is a huge project! If you have any updates or scholarships to promote, please let me know and I will add it. Special thanks to Genevieve Aronsen and Ceci Stratford!
